NOT ONLY FOR DINING
There was a time when kitchen and living spaces were divided. At times, the kitchen was over crowded and the living room empty, only to be used in certain special occasions.
In modern living, instead, the kitchen and living room have become part of a single, large and integrated space, often not even divided by a partition such as a book case or a sofa.
A multipurpose space where the person that cooks can interact with guests, children can play supervised... and no one is excluded from the family or social life
The kitchen has thus become the true heart of the home, an environment where the whole family gets together with its common spaces, and where it is nice to welcome friends. This has resulted in an improved way of life which nowadays has its own new etiquette. On the next page you will find some useful tips that will help you choose the right kitchen-living room.
1. BE CONSISTENT WITH STYLEMaintain a consistency of style with the kitchen, its various elements and the living room to avoid mixing irreconcilable styles2. USE GENTLE PARTITIONSIf you want to create a separation, do it in a gentle way, with elements (book case, sofa, partition ...) which preserve a sense of continuity.3. FOCUS ON LIGHTINGPay close attention to lighting so that it is homogeneous. Say, for example, you have guests and need lights or dimmers dedicated for specific areas; some providing brighter light in food preparation areas and others more ambient light for the living area.4. CAREFUL PLANNINGBefore you decide to buy, draft a plan of the room with the indicated outlets for water, gas and light to properly position the various elements of furniture.5. PLACING YOUR ORDERRemember to carefully position the appliances in your project so as to be more comfortable working in the kitchen. This should also keep the fridge next to the pantry – creating a clear area food preparation area.6. KEEP AN EYE ON SPACEIf the room is long choose a linear kitchen. A corner kitchen is good with two perpendicular walls while a galley design is correct in a large room, in which case on one side you will have the cooking and cleaning and on the other, food preparation. If you would like an island, remember to allow enough space to go around the room.7.
